They are nocturnal bottom dwelling sharks that have a spiracle, an external respiratory opening behind the eye, which allows them to breathe while being sedentary on the ocean floor. Their unique markings make them great at camouflaging amongst rocky substrate, giving them an advantage when ambushing their prey.
