Sand Tiger Shark With Remoras Enamel Pin
$12.00
Celebrate Shark Week 2022 with our new Sand Tiger Shark enamel pin!
This pin celebrates sharks and an amazing mutualism they have with remora fishes. Remoras, also known as suckerfish or sharksuckers, are made up of 8 species of the family Echeneidae. These fishes have a mutualistic relationship with sharks, as well as large marine mammals, in which they attach themselves to the sharks through use of an oval shaped sucking disk on top of their heads. This allows them to feed off of the scraps left over from the shark's meal without having to hunt for it themselves. In return, they benefit the sharks by removing parasites from their skin and mouths, helping to keep the sharks healthy! Remoras, like many other marine organisms and enironments, depend on sharks for their survivial. Decling shark populations put them in jeopardy. We need sharks in order to ensure a healthy ocean, and it is not their presence that we should fear, but rather, we should fear their absence. Healthy sharks, healthy oceans!
You can show your love for sharks and their remora friends with this adorable enamel pin! Made from gold metal plated hard enamel, and measuring 2.25 by 0.85 inches, this pin would make the perfect gift for any ocean lover and would be a beautiful addition to an enamel pin collection.
Comes with two rubber pin backs to prevent sliding and a “Marytime Designs” logo backing stamp for authenticity as well as glitter details on the remoras. Pins are mounted on a beautiful backing card featuring original watercolor artwork.
