The greater blue-ringed octopus, Hapalochlaena lunulata, is one of four species of blue rings, which are some of the most venomous marine animals in the world. For their size, they are the most deadly of all cephalopods, as they only reach about two inches long as adults with three inch arms. When they feel threatened, they will flash the blue rings that cover their head and arms, but are not aggressive and will never attack unless provoked. They are found in shallow reefs and tide pools from Australia to Japan and feed on small crustaceans like hermit crabs and shrimp
